"Elephant mourns friend" was one of the headlines I clicked on at newsbeast.gr a Greek tabloid site I was perusing a in search of information about the new Greek government that is to be announced shortly, we are told. (A new PM may be announced tomorrow, or not. The situation in Greece is going beyond farce and tragicomedy. [We used to say that W and his krew had lapped our satire. Well, the pols in Greece have lapped it twice.] So, I have no news about Greece's new PM or any news at all apart from the fact that Italy seems to been caught in the down swirl.)

But the elephant story (I had heard before how the elephant and the dog had become friends) somehow encapsulated all the grief I've been feeling recently about the country I live in, the economic system I'm embedded in, the planet I live on.

Like Tarra, I have no answers, just sorrow.

The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee passes on some sad news: Bella, the dog whose friendship with an elephant captured hearts around the globe, is dead.

Indications are that Tarra was the first to learn of Bella’s demise, and that the elephant picked up her body in the woods and carried it to a place where they had spent happy times together.

I don't know why I need an elephant mourning its friend for my emotions to surface but there it is.

Greetings from the eurozone in crisis.
